In May, 2012 the RM of Grahamdale held a public meeting to present ideas for Steep Rock economic development. The > 100 people in attendance were told that that the ideas were just that and that no decisions had been made on the individual opportunities. In particular the RM suggested the closure of senic Lake Shore Drive (south of main dock to Limestone Drive). Very quickly after this public meeting the RM Council passed a resolution on June 14th closing this road and bollards were immediately installed. Residents were shocked as we were told that IDEAS only were being presented. Over 120 residents and concerned individuals created a petition that was presented to Council by a long time and caring resident. The Council response ignored the requests of the majority of residents and instead sent an insulting response (attached) intended for local residents. I have been a resident of Steep Rock for 23 years and am not aware of any safety issues on Lake Shore Drive that don not exist on every other road in Steep Rock! I do not believe the Council has acted with fairness to the Community with its speedy closure of Lake Shore Drive. There are many economic development opportunities in Steep Rock and it is unfortunate the Council has chosed to ignore residents when they will hopefully be requesting their support in future for other opportunities. For now Steep Rock residents remain totally unhappy with Council's response and continue to demand the re-opening of Lake Shore Drive.
