Jets in MMJHL semi-finals

The Stonewall Jets have secured a place in the MMJHL semifinal playoffs, after defeating the St. James Canucks 4-2 in their best-of-seven playoff round.

The Jets will face the Raiders Jr. Hockey club in a best-of-seven semifinal playoff series- a repeat of last year’s championship round, that saw the Raiders come out on top. As of March 19, the schedule for their games had not been updated.

The Jets launched a compelling attack on the Canucks at the Keith Bodley Arena March 16, winning the Game 4 encounter 8-3.

In the first period, Stonewall scored three quick goals from Brendon Burnett, Ryan McMahon and Braden Groot. The Canucks added two of their own from John McCammon and Kemball, before the Jet’s Chase Faulkner and Groot (with his second), secured Stonewall’s 5-2 lead.

Kyle Doak scored the middle frame’s solitary goal, bringing the Jet’s tally to 6-2.

In the third period, Doak added another goal for Stonewall at 19:30. His teammate, Taylor Radley scored Stonewall’s eight goal. Jarret Neudorf scored the Canucks’ final goal, but it was too late to dent Stonewall’s lead.

In their final encounter of the season, both team’s fought to the end, before Stonewall won in an overtime period at the VMSC March 18. In the first period, Meixner scored the opening goal for St. James, before Chop netted a goal for the Jets.

In the middle frame, Canucks player Chris Sass netted a goal during a power play and securing the a Canucks lead. The advantage was short-lived as Stonewall’s Faulkner drew the game in the third period.

In the overtime period, Faulkner buried another goal, his second of the encounter, and secured Stonewall’s spot in the semifinals.
