Zone 5 JV basketball teams mirror results, final

The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association Zone V Junior Varsity boys and girls Basketball play-offs saw some pretty interesting results, with the girls and boys coming out on opposite ends of the spectrum at Gimli High School Feb. 26 to 27.

JV Boys Lakers top Zone V
The boys had two more teams than the girls in their playoffs, adding an extra round to their tournament.
 
The Teulon Saints gave out to the Riverton Patriots 44-45 in first round in a close battle to get to the second round.
 
The Arborg Athletics took their only win in the playoffs with a 67-10 victory against the Fisher Branch Cougars on the other side.
 
In the second round, the Riverton Patriots passed the buck on to the Gimli Lakers 71-29.
 
The Athletics fought and ultimately gave in to the Warren Wildcats, who took the second round of the tournament, 54-38, on their side.
 
The Lakers took home the championship banner 68-43 against the Wildcats in their last championship game for their zone Feb. 27 at Gimli High School.
 
They will face the WMCI Warriors, Treherne Tigers, OLC Wolverines, Goose Lake Raiders, Pinawa Panthers, Carman Cougars, Niverville Panthers, Killarney Raiders, during the “A/AA” JV Boys Provincials. in Treherne March 9 to March 10.
 
JV Girls, Saints soar to provincials
The Teulon Saints closed out the Gimli Lakers 59-6 in the first round of their zone’s play-offs, the exact opposite outcome of their male counterparts.
 
Meanwhile, the Arborg Athletics tapped out to the Warren Wildcats after a 54-38 loss on their side during the first round.
 
The Saints took on the Wildcats in the final round, winning 34-23.
 
They will face the Niverville Panthers, TKS Knights, RLG Raiders, Prairie Mountain Predators, MacGregor Mustangs, Hapnot Kweens, and the Boisevan Broncos in the “A/AA” JV Girls Provincials in Somerset, March 9 and March 10.
