The driver of an SUV was killed in an afternoon crash near St. Andrews Feb. 11.

Selkirk RCMP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 at Bowser Road in the RM of St. Andrews At around 1:15 p.m.

Investigators believe a northbound SUV, being driven by a 57-year-old male from Winnipeg, was attempting to pass another vehicle when he collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck, being driven by a 40-year-old male from St. Andrews. The vehicle that was passed then subsequently struck the debris from the collision and was forced to the side of the road.

The driver of the SUV, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition. It is unknown at this time if he was wearing his seatbelt.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

Officers from the Selkirk RCMP along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate. Highway 9 from 3.9 kilometres north of the Highway 4 junction to Clandeboye was closed for more than four hours due to the collision.
