Falcons soar past Warriors

The Lundar Falcons travelled to the St. Malo Arena Jan. 19, and returned home with a hard-fought victory. The Falcons took on the St. Malo Warriors and beat them 5-4 in a close overtime game.


In the first period, the Falcons glided to a 2-0 lead. Zack Bone, assisted by Drake Zimmerman scored Lundar’s first goal, followed shortly by Landon Gray with an unassisted goal.


St. Malo lead the charge in the second, with a goal from Tyrel Bueckert at  0:18 . Lundar added another goal at 0:50 to take the lead to 3-1. In the last minute of play the Warriors spearheaded another goal courtesy of Haden Hildebrand.


In the third, Gray added his second goal for Lundar, before Gavin Pott netted two for the Warriors, tying the game at 4-4. The game went to overtime, with Gray scoring the winning goal for the Falcons and earning his hat trick.

In their other KJHL game of the week, the Falcons lost 3-2 to the Selkirk Fishermen on home ice at the Warren Arena Jan. 21. The Fish dived right into the first period, netting two goals from Brandon Thomas and Milan Horanski.
There was no scoring in the second period.


In the third, Lundar dominated, netting two goals courtesy of an on-form Gray. The goals tied things up by the end of regular time. In the overtime period, Fish player Josh Poponick scored the winner at 2:38.

The Fish beat the Fisher River Hawks 9-4 at Fisher River Arena Complex Jan. 19.
 

The Arborg Ice Dawgs defeated the Peguis Juniors 6-4 at the Arborg and District Arena Jan. 19.


Peguis travelled to St. Malo Arena to face the Warriors Jan.20. The Juniors won the game 5-2. The Hawks and Peguis were scheduled to face-off at the Fisher River Arena Complex Jan. 23. Scores were unavailable at press time.
