It wasn’t the regular season home opener the Selkirk Steelers were hoping for in front of 553 hockey fans.
The visiting Steinbach Pistons handed the hometown Steelers an 8-3 loss at the Selkirk Recreation Complex Sept. 23.
The Pistons got out to an early lead in the first scoring three unanswered goals before the Steelers hit the game sheet when Kyle Schneider scored on a pass from Carter Barley. Selkirk’s Colby Dudek followed that up with a goal of his own. But Steinbach extended their lead to 4-2 to end the first.
The Pistons scored the lone goal of the second, taking a 5-2 lead into the third period.
Steinbach’s momentum continued in the final frame, netting three more goals compared to Selkirk’s lone goal of the third.
