Three months after launching their iPhone app, the RM of St. Andrews has now released a community app for Android phones as well.
Alike the iPhone version this app is free, and is a quick, up-to-date method of improving communication to the community. A press release issued by the RM stated the app “provides residents and visitors with immediate access to local news, events, maps and complete business directory”. The app also provides access to municipal information at a person’s fingertips.
In a previous interview regarding the iPhone app municipal reeve Don ForFar said in today’s day and age people expect quick access to information, and anything they as the RM can do to enhance that is a good thing. At the time he also said the app is a good tool for delivering and improving upon the RM’s flood information as well as other emergency communication to residents.
Both the iPhone and Android app were developed by All-Net.ca using iTown service. The iPhone app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, while the Android app can be downloaded on Google Play. Links to where to download the app for either smart phone are on the St. Andrews’ website, www.rmofstandrews.com.
“This is the new reality,” said ForFar in a recent interview. “People expect better and better, and easier and easier access to information – that’s really what it is about. As society evolves so do the expectations. We’re just responding to what people expect and what we believe will use.”
