A new business has taken root in the centre of the Gimli Industrial Park located just west of Gimli. Gimli Self Storage now occupies one-and-a-half acres of previously unoccupied land just a stone's throw from the airport.

Don Penner began to develop the site last year and now the secure storage facility is up and running.

The fenced-in site consists of one large brand-new steel building housing 20 10 ft. by 20 ft. units and eight 10 by 10 units. Penner says the cold storage building is ideal for long or short-term storage providing security and safety for the clients personal property. A concrete pad built high and dry on the compeletly gravelled site keeps the units safe from the weather.

"The site is well above grade and the gravel base makes for a solid surface for vehicles to come and go," Penner said.

Along with the 28 units the one-and-a-half acre site provides enough room to accomodate more than 50 trailers, boats or recreational vehilcles.

The gated compound is completely fenced with security lights and coded gate locks for easy customer access at all times of the day or night. "It's all about the security," Penner says. "Our next step will be to add 24-hr. security cameras at the site. We'll be able to identify the licence numbers of the vehicles coming and going and be able to download that information for future reference," he said.

Penner says future plans may include an expansion of the storage facility but for now an additional one acre parcel he purchased next to the storage site will remain a grassy area.

As demographics change and retirees begin to downsize the need for safe, secure storage will increase and Penner's new storage facility will meet the bill.
